Crombie Film is the production banner of British film-maker Robert Crombie.

In association with DreamCraft Pictures, Crombie Film is currently in pre-production of an unannounced feature film to be shot in November 2026. We are also putting the final touches on the English language version of The Good Soldier. We also offer our high-end English-language dubbing services and produce a YouTube serial.

Robert’s past credits include the hit romantic drama Sappho, which he wrote and directed. He was also a writer and producer on the MGM distributed action movie Soldiers of Fortune, starring Christian Slater, Sean Bean, Ving Rhames, James Cromwell & Colm Meaney,. Additionally, he was the director of the “woman in peril” thriller White Swan, starring Christian Slater, Cole Hauser & Angus MacFadyen, and distributed by Lionsgate. His first feature was an ultra-low budget kids’ flick for the late Roger Corman starring 3-time Mr. Universe Michael O’Hearn.

Robert was the CEO of the production services company Yalta-Film and its associated film equipment rental company (and Arri rental partner) ArtLite. Both were located in Crimea when it was still de facto part of Ukraine, and were highly successful. The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 ended both these ventures - somewhat abruptly.

Prior to that Robert was the director and/or producer of well over 100 TV commercials. These were mostly shot in Russia & Eastern Europe, largely for multinational FMCG clients like Proctor&Gamble, Mars/Masterfoods, Nestle, McDonalds, Shell etc. Amongst other awards, his Eisenstein inspired spot for August Beer won a pan-European Epica in 1995.

Robert is also the author of the novels Cuba Libre and The Big Pretend, and of the short story collections The Book of Fantastical Animals (for children) and A Dog In Front Of The World (for adults). Additionally, he has written a rather large number of unproduced screenplays and film and TV treatments - some sold, some optioned, some not. He is also the co-creator of the board game Human.

The Good Soldier

What makes a hero?

From war-torn Ukraine comes a Christmas movie like no other.

The Good Soldier is a full-length 2D animation feature film based on Jaroslav Hasek’s famous comic tale of a common soldier’s adventures in the Great War.

Josef Svejk, a dealer in second-hand dogs, is called up to serve in World War One. Once in the army the apparent “idiot” Svejk is imprisoned, half-starved, lost at cards, and almost hanged as he makes his reluctant way towards the front lines and near certain death. However, Svejk has one last triumphant idiocy in reserve…

The Good Soldier is a funny and heart-warming movie about our common humanity targeted at older children and adults. Any similarities between happenings in the film and current world events is entirely coincidental - really.

The Good Soldier - in English - will premiere later this year!

Two women on a pebble beach under a cloudy sky. The woman in the foreground is kneeling on the pebbles, wearing a white sleeveless top with black trim, and has short brown hair. The woman in the background is standing, wearing a black dress with white trim, and has short blonde hair. There are stones and a wooden board game on the beach. Overlaid text is partially visible, including the words 'SAND', 'SAH' and a list of film production credits.

Sappho

Sappho is a provocative love story set in the 1920s. Millionaire’s daughter Sappho Lovell arrives on the Greek island of Lesbos with her new husband Phil. She meets an archaeologist’s daughter, Helene, and falls in love with her. At the same time, Sappho also comes to believe that she is the reincarnation of her namesake, the ancient Greek poetess Sappho - that Sappho who first put the “lesbian” in Lesbos.  However, our modern-day Sappho doesn’t realise how the ancient Sappho’s story ends...

Sappho was a runaway success on its cinema release in Ukraine, with powerful evangelical leaders organising a nationwide petition against the movie and branding it as “the worst expression of Western freedom,” resulting in packed out cinemas, death threats against the director, and a tripling of the then box office record for a locally-produced movie. Sappho also won the “Golden Aphrodite” at the Cyprus International Film Festival, and it was released theatrically in ten countries. It has more or less sold out worldwide on DVD/TV and continues to do well on VOD. Sappho is currently banned in Putin’s Russia due to its sympathetic treatment of LGBTQ themes. A “Director’s Cut” was released in 2024.
